Who is Charlie?  Charlie can been seen lying on the bleachers near been Abiles in two of the group photos above.  Charlie is a Choc Lab mix whom Ben and Regina Abiles have had almost three years. He was left at a Vets office when the previous owner could not afford his operation.  They took Charlie in as a foster pet while he was recovering (two months) from his operation and other ailments. The people slated to take him after he got well, changed their mind and Ben and Regina decided to go back to the shelter to make him a permanent part of their lives.

Charlie is mild mannered, does not bark (they've heard him bark 5 times, just one bark), and gets along with everyone/thing he meets. He does get excited by squirrels and small birds. He was trained by his previous owner to be a therapy dog. Regina and Ben underwent the training program so that they could take Charlie for visits (hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc.). He is currently licensed by Therapy Dogs International (TDI) with Ben as his handler. Regina missed the exam day because she was in Haiti visiting Pwoje Espwa (Project Hope), a large humanitarian mission operated by Free The Kids, the non-profit that Ben just joined as their interim Executive Director.
